Lesotho’s Road Fund has assumed responsibility for collecting and administering toll-gate fees at the country’s designated border facilities.

The transfer took effect on 1 July, moving the function from Revenue Services Lesotho, which had administered border toll collections for more than 15 years. The Road Fund is now responsible for collecting tolls, managing the resulting revenue, providing customer service and reporting on how toll income is used. The change is intended to consolidate toll-related functions within the organisation responsible for mobilising and managing revenue dedicated to road maintenance and development.

“The transition has been carefully planned to safeguard service delivery and maintain operational continuity at all toll points,” the Road Fund and Revenue Services Lesotho said in a joint statement. Existing toll rates remain unchanged unless subsequently amended through official channels. In an operational update published on 3 August, the Road Fund said its management team had completed a week-long inspection of border posts following the takeover.

The visits examined operational requirements, the experiences of newly recruited border staff and any challenges arising during the transition. The Road Fund described the implementation as successful and said it would continue to assess service quality and accountability at the country’s ports of entry.
