The Netherlands’ vehicle authority RDW has authorised Axxès and Tolltickets as European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) providers for the country’s new truck toll system.

The approvals were announced on 9 June 2026, ahead of the launch of the Dutch truck toll on 1 July 2026. The kilometre-based charge will apply to Dutch and foreign trucks in categories N2 and N3, covering vehicles with a technical maximum mass of more than 3.5 tonnes. Axxès and Tolltickets join TotalEnergies, Telepass and Toll4Europe as approved EETS providers.

NedLinq has also been contracted as a provider of onboard units that will work only in the Netherlands. EETS providers supply onboard units and handle toll payment and settlement. According to RDW, the approval of Axxès and Tolltickets gives transport operators a wider range of providers for the Dutch system.

“This admission means we can provide even more freedom of choice for truck owners,” said Jan Strijk, toll collection director at RDW. “It is important that owners who have not yet made a choice do so now. As of 1 July 2026, all trucks in the Netherlands must have their own onboard unit.” The admission process includes an assessment of providers’ legal, financial and technical suitability, followed by practical testing.

RDW said the assessment includes data exchange, information security and the performance of onboard equipment. From 1 July, checks will be carried out to ensure that trucks using Dutch roads have a working onboard unit. A large part of the revenue generated by the truck toll will be used to fund subsidies for electric trucks and charging infrastructure.
