A new multilane free-flow (MLFF) Operian tolling system has successfully been deployed in Serbia on the Belgrade ring road, reaching more than 1 million monthly transactions.

The recently completed MLFF system on the Belgrade ring road went live on April 1, 2026, following an implementation period of less than five months from project kick-off to operation. The system has been operating reliably since launch and is already processing more than one million toll transaction per month (40,000 per weekday and 20,000 per day on weekends), enabling immediate revenue generation for the customer.

The project was delivered in close cooperation with Orion Telekom and the Public Enterprise Roads of Serbia and adminstered by Kapsch TrafficCom. “By successfully implementing 14 toll stations within four months, we have demonstrated our excellence in project delivery in Serbia,” explains Carolin Treichl, EVP EMEA at Kapsch TrafficCom. Building on this foundation, Kapsch TrafficCom has now initiated a proof of concept for a new roadside configuration.

The solution combines Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) with advanced video-based vehicle classification, using an upgraded camera system to enhance detection and classification capabilities.
